Returning beverage crates at the RVM
In addition to individual PET bottles or aluminum cans, reverse vending machines must also be able to handle entire beverage crates in certain cases. This requires checking both the crate itself and its contents before acceptance. The insensiv crate recognition system was developed to reliably identify the crate type and confirm the correct occupation of the crate compartments.
The intelligent camera system can be seamlessly integrated as an OEM component into the input chute of various types of reverse vending machines. Multiple high-performance cameras capture images of the crate from different angles, enabling precise and reliable analysis.
The crate recognition has been used successfully for many years in established deposit return schemes – such as the German reusable deposit system – and has proven itself to be a robust, low-maintenance, and sustainable solution. It supports a fast and straightforward return process, ensuring a smooth customer experience.
Reliable recognition & analysis
The crate recognition system operates fully automatically and is controlled by the reverse vending machine. As soon as a beverage crate is inserted, the system begins image capture and analysis at the command of the RVM control unit. Evaluation is performed directly on the device, and the results are directly transmitted back to the control system.
The crate itself is identified by comparing the logo, color, and dimensions with a database. Over 100 different crate types can be stored in this database. 3D stereo optics are used to analyze the occupancy of the crate compartments inside the crate and to detect missing or incorrect bottles.
The crate recognition system can be conveniently configured via a web-based user interface. This intuitive interface enables easy management of the crate database and fine-tuning of recognition parameters, while also providing access to the latest analysis results. As a result, the system remains highly flexible and easily adaptable to new markets or crate types.
